Katara Hospitality joins Qatar National Sport Day Walkathon

15th February 2015

Employees from Katara Hospitality in Doha participated in a special walkathon at the Pearl-Qatar yesterday in celebration of the fourth National Sport Day.

Organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) & United Development Company (UDC), the walkathon saw participation from Qatar’s most prominent hotels, hospitality organisations and other players in the local tourism sector. More than 50 employees from Katara Hospitality enthusiastically joined the walk wearing co-branded sports attire and carrying flags and banners.

A global hotel owner, developer and operator based in Qatar, Katara Hospitality regularly gets involved in community events and initiatives such as the National Sport Day which aim to inspire the people of Qatar to come together for a unified goal.

Last year Katara Hospitality and its local hotels participated in a company-initiated mini marathon organised by the Six Senses Spa at the Sharq Village & Spa. More than 150 staff members participated in the marathon and various other competitions, winning prizes and trophies. In the years prior to that, Katara Hospitality joined the National Sport Day festivities by organizing sports competitions at Sharq Village & Spa, Sealine Beach Resort and the famous min-marathon at the Doha Corniche.

“Dedicated to promoting fitness and healthy living among its residents, Qatar is one of the few countries to actually assign a day for sports and physical activity,” said Chief Executive Officer and Board member at Katara Hospitality. “As Qatar’s flagship hospitality organisation deeply committed to the welfare of the local people, Katara Hospitality participates in a number of community events and activities such as the National Sport Day.”

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to spend some outdoor quality time with my colleagues,” said Marko Hytonen, Corporate Director – Asset Management Special Projects, Operations at Katara Hospitality. “The walkathon and sporting tournaments allowed us to take a break from our busy work routines and kick start a healthy lifestyle which is essential to boosting our professional productivity.”

“Each year, the National Sport Day mobilises residents and families from all over Qatar to engage in an exciting range of sporting activities that not only encourage a more active and healthy lifestyle but also build team spirit,” said Amena Tena, Manager – Corporate Communications at Katara Hospitality.

The Qatar National Sport Day is an initiative by the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and has been celebrated every year since 2012 on the second Tuesday in February with the objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle among Qatari residents and citizens. Qatar National Sport Day each year sees more and more residents and companies join the various sporting competitions and athletics, and appreciate the importance of physical activity for a healthier future.
