Katara Hospitality Invites Qatar Foundation for Elderly People Care for Poolside Afternoon Tea at Sharq Village & Spa

, 6th April 2014

Katara Hospitality and Sharq Village & Spa have recently hosted the residents of the Qatar Foundation for Elderly People Care (Ihsan) for afternoon tea at the resort’s Al Liwan Terrace.

Ihsan seeks to provide a safe and stable life for the nation’s elderly citizens and raises public awareness about the essential needs of seniors. Katara Hospitality employees along with Sharq Village & Spa employees entertained 25 seniors and caregivers from the foundation. The group shared stories about their life experiences in Qatar and played games such as backgammon and chess. Gifts to stimulate, energise and revitalise the body and spirit were presented to the elderly people by the Six Senses Spa.

The hosts were pleased to spend time with the senior citizens, and the informal get-together allowed them to learn more about some of the social, health, economic and rehabilitative problems the elderly face.

“Respect and care for our elders is an important value in Qatar and the rest of the Arab world, and we at Katara Hospitality are proud to be associated with such an honourable cause,” said Mr. Al Mulla, CEO, Katara Hospitality. “The foundation’s work in providing a steady support system for the elderly is very impressive and we hope to work with the team to further improve the lives and status of seniors in our country.”

Ihsan was founded in January 2003 under the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned.

The event was part of Katara Hospitality’s wider commitment to the prosperity and socioeconomic welfare of the local community in its homeland, Qatar. Among other charitable initiatives, the company actively supports the Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs which provides educational, medical, rehabilitation, social, vocational and recreational services for children with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.

As Qatar’s flagship hospitality organisation, Katara Hospitality considers the advancement and welfare of the local people a top priority. The group has developed a comprehensive and integrated Corporate Social Responsibility programme aimed at bringing sustainable economic worth and empowerment to the communities it operates in.

The hotels Katara Hospitality owns and manages in Qatar are involved in various humanitarian programmes and have established themselves as treasured community hubs. Each property develops its own activities which are aimed to engage with the local community at different levels.
