Employees from Katara Hospitality, Qatar’s leading hotel developer, owner and operator with properties in the Middle East, Europe and Asia, joined the fight against breast cancer this month by raising an impressive financial donation towards breast cancer research.

Welcoming representatives from the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) to its Doha-based offices, Katara Hospitality employees learned about how to spot early signs of the disease and other preventative measures, which is the fastest types of cancer prevalent. According to the latest WHO statistics, more than 1.2 million cases of breast cancer are diagnosed worldwide each year and more than 500,000 deaths occur annually from this disease.

Employees were given the opportunity to take part in a one-on-one session before joining in a range of fun activities while enjoying canapés and hors d’oeuvres in all shades of pink.

Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of Katara Hospitality, said: “Katara Hospitality is deeply rooted to its home here in Doha. I am proud to work with such a passionate team that so generously gives back to the community.  The support showed for Pink October is a wonderful example of the selfless team spirit and commitment that endows our employees.”

The Qatar Cancer Society is one of the leading humanitarian organizations in Qatar which pledges to work towards increasing public awareness about cancer and cancer prevention at local, regional as well as international levels whenever possible.

Since 2010, 140 cases of breast cancer have been identified in Qatar each year, whilst cancer of the breast remains Qatar’s most commonly occurring form of cancer.

Organised by the Katara Hospitality’s CSR Committee the event is the latest in a series of CSR initiatives that see the Doha-based hospitality company give back to the community.
