Our History
We are pioneers
Katara Hospitality’s genesis can be traced back to 1970, when the Government of Qatar established Qatar National Hotels Limited to manage the Gulf Hotel, now the Doha Marriott, the country’s very first five star hotel. 1982 marked the opening of the first internationally branded hotel, the iconic Sheraton Doha. Fast forward to 1993 when an Emiri decree identified significant growth potential for Qatar’s tourism industry, a new entity, Qatar National Hotels Company (QNH), took over the assets of the previous Limited company.
From the beginning, Katara Hospitality has adopted a pioneering approach: we managed the first five star hotel in Doha and introduced the country’s first internationally branded hotel. 2001 marked the opening of the tallest hotel in Qatar at that time, The Ritz-Carlton. Sealine Beach Resort was the first leisure resort in Qatar, while Sharq Village & Spa was the first luxury resort in the country, with the Six Senses Spa, the largest of its kind in the region.
Using our experience and scale, we continued to develop high quality hospitality environments and today, we own and manage more than 5,000 four and five star hotel rooms in Qatar and further afield in Europe, Africa and the Far East.
